Parachuting Trainer Dies After Plummeting Lacking Parachute in Music City
The Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the fatality of a skydiving instructor after he got detached from his client during a dive in Music City, TN.
Authorities report trainer Justin Fuller "appears to have fallen from the sky without a parachute" during the dive on Saturday.
The instructor, 35 years old, seems to have separated from his client and a dual harness, which links the two during a jump and includes the safety gear.
A law enforcement aircraft located the instructor's remains in a forested zone some time after. Local emergency crews used several ladders to reach the 46-year old student who lived through the descent after being trapped on a tree for hours with the backup chute.
Police stated several additional jumps, which occurred near a local airport, were successfully completed prior to the deadly incident. Aircraft from which they jumped also landed safely.
It is unclear how the instructor, an seasoned parachutist, got detached from the safety equipment.
A individual who helped rescue teams in the rescue informed a media outlet the client who officials rescued mentioned "he was a first-time jumper, and it was going to be his final one".
The instructor had recently written about his enthusiasm for instructing people how to parachute.
"Instructing individuals to parachute has consistently been in my view the most satisfying job at the jump site," the instructor wrote in an social media update in June.
"Watching them learn the skills and begin maneuvering their bodies is consistently a touching experience. Sometimes though, it can get a little hectic up there when you release a student for their initial attempt."
That same month he shared photos of the damage a jump aircraft he was on saying the aircraft's motor had malfunctioned after take off. Every individual aboard survived.
