Unveiling a Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Turdy Character on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have encountered a variety of engaging creations from small studios. However, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer features a hero that is actually a piece of poop attempting to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: you only need a one button to leap. Across 150 challenges, battle tough enemies and visit a store to purchase outfits for your dung hero.
Execute your actions with caution, as a mistake requires beginning again. Bounce on bubbles to hurl your character to new heights, cross crumbling platforms, and interact with triggers to unlock new areas. Collect currency and use them on tougher levels where the action intensifies.
Visually, the experience features neon environments and an amazing background music. The simple visual style with moving basic polygons could recall players of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's tough to recall other games where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment often featured toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from protagonist waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, such content appears extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable accolades, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the final release planned to launch on computers on November 19.
